Did you know? The skin is the largest organ in the body. Having flawless skin is a priority for all, especially those in the beauty sectors. While there are a lot of cosmetics, products and skin routines people pledge by in order to maintain the glow, they are also exposed to a lot of problems. Common Skin Diseases include rashes, itches, burns, ooze or a sting. Most of these are not serious and are treatable under the guidance of a dermatologist.

A good understanding of the symptoms can help you identify diseases earlier and reverse them. To help you with the same, we have covered all the information, symptoms and treatments involved in cases of Common Skin Diseases. To help you find the best service on time, we have also included a list of life-threatening skin diseases along with information on the best dermatologist in Riyadh and the list of the best hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Common skin problems

The skin protects our bodies from cold, dampness, sunlight, and harmful substances and germs. Through our skin, we receive sensory information such as heat, cold, pain, itchiness, and pressure. The color of the skin can be affected by health conditions – for example, individuals with hepatitis have a yellowish tinge to their skin, while those with low red blood cell counts appear paler.

Various external factors can irritate, inflame, and clog your skin, causing itchiness, burning, redness, and swelling. There are, however, certain skin conditions that are genetic and others that are lifestyle-related. Different skin conditions can be treated with ointments, creams, medications, and lifestyle changes. Below is the list of the most common skin diseases and how they can be treated;

  • Acne: Acne are blocked skin follicles that are a result of bacteria build-up in the pores, dead skin, and oil. These are preventable and controllable by following proper skin care routine. However, in case of serious conditions, it is always advisable to get the help of an expert.
  • Atopic dermatitis or eczema: This is a condition where your skin feels dry and itchy resulting in scaliness, cracking and swelling. Self-care measures and treatments can relieve itching and prevent new outbreaks. In such cases, avoid harsh soaps, moisturise your skin regularly, and apply medicated creams or ointments as a measure to control infection.
  • Alopecia Areata: This is a rare skin condition that leads to losing hair in small patches. This skin disorder is rarely curable, however, it can be treated, with the help of anti-inflammatory drugs that are advised for autoimmune diseases.
  • Raynaud’s phenomenon: A condition in which your fingers and toes’ blood vessels overreact to low temperatures or stress. In this condition, the blood flow to the toes, fingers, and other body parts is periodically reduced, which leads to numbness and a change in colour of the skin. It doesn’t pose a serious health risk to most people. Some people, however, can suffer damage due to a reduction in blood flow. With proper treatment, Raynaud’s phenomenon can be managed, but it cannot be cured.
  • Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a skin condition in which skin cells replace themselves too fast, resulting in scaly skin that may swell or feel hot. Treatments for psoriasis aim to stop skin cells from growing so quickly and remove scales. Medications can be taken orally or injected. Topical therapies include creams and ointments (topical therapy), light therapy (phototherapy), and light therapy (phototherapy).
  • Skin Cancer: Skin cancer results from an uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells. Early detection and treatment of skin cancer can cure the majority of cases. There are several types of treatment options available, including excision, cryotherapy, Mohs surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. A professional skin examination is recommended once a year by a dermatologist.
  • Rosacea: Overactive immune system, heredity, environmental factors or a combination of these are the cause of Rosacea. It is a skin condition that results in thick, flushed pimples and skin on the face. This is the most common skin disease affecting middle-aged white women which can be treated with proper medication and care.
  • Vitiligo: This is a rare condition caused by a lack of melanin in the skin, which causes white patches on the skin or hair. Although this condition does not pose a serious threat to one’s health, it can result in physical complications, such as eye issues, hearing problems, and sunburn. Common treatments for Vitiligo includes camouflage therapy, repigmentation therapy, light therapy and surgery.

Despite the fact that chronic skin conditions such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, and rosacea are not usually curable, in some cases, medications and lifestyle changes can often help manage them.
